There are many varieties of masking tapes today. Not all will do all jobs. Tim Carter explains selecting the proper one.
Masking tape today is not as boring as it was a few years back. Today, they are many varieties of masking tape, not just one as in the past. There is a special painter's tape available. This new tape will not pull off the paint if used immediately on a freshly painted surface.
Adhesive is the major difference in today's tapes. A rubberized adhesive was used on masking tape in the past. It was sticky, very sticky. It was also solvent based and sunlight activated. If left on too long, it won't come off.
Modern masking tapes have a specific usage time. Check the manufacturer's label for the recommended working time. Stay inside this time frame for easy removal.
One special masking tape has a rule printed right on it. Apply the tape and you can use it for spacing when painting. So next time you are looking for masking tape, shop around. There will be one to meet your project requirements
